Speaker 1:

Hey, welcome back to another episode, and today we are talking about energy and why this is really important in your day, with how productive you are going to be. So, basically, what happens is people get stuck into a I'm so busy but nothing's happening trap. So these are the days when you're answering emails, taking calls, doing inspections, but somehow it feels like you didn't actually really do anything. I know that I certainly have a few of those days. You are not imagining it. You're spending your best energy on the wrong things. So this is how I want you to think about it. Your energy is like a phone battery you wake up with a hundred% and every task, every conversation, every decision drains that little bit more energy. So the question is what deserves that full battery energy and that full battery charge? What should we be doing in those moments when our battery is fully charged, and what should we be doing? What tasks in our day should we be doing when we are at the lower end of our battery charge? So we need to understand our energy zones, and this is something that's going to be very different for each person. So there are some people in the world where they have loads of energy in the morning and some others just have no energy in the morning and they pick up their energy more in the afternoon. So that's probably the first part of the exercise is really just to work out where are you most energized, and this is a really good thing to do, with your team as well, if you're finding that maybe the productivity is not really happening. So this is how I break it down when you've got high energy, the things that you should be using it for are the big sort of picture stuff problem solving, investor calls, tricky conversations, maybe your meetings like if you do team meetings, etc. They're the things that you do when your energy is really high. So, whether that's in the morning or late in the afternoon, you sort of just want to be structuring your day when that happens. So if you have I don't know a landlord who is, it's going to be a really tricky conversation. That's something you're more likely to do in the morning. So my recommendation would be that if you have really low energy and that's not going to be productive for you to make that phone call in the afternoon that you simply just send through a quick message to say thanks, I've received your message. I'm just in some appointments, but I'll give you a call first thing in the morning, so that's sort of like how you would actually manage your day.

Speaker 1:

Then you've got your mid energy zone. So mid energy zone might be something where you need a bit of energy for. But you know, it's not low, it's not high, so you might do follow-up with clients. You might probably do all your admin during that time, maybe your content planning, I don't know report checking, sort of all that admin work is where you're going to be doing. You're going to be doing all of that in your mid energy zone.

Speaker 1:

And then the next part is actually, when your tank's low and that battery's low, what tasks should you be doing? Because there's no point doing high energy tasks when you've got low energy, because you actually are probably not going to get through it. It's not going to be very good and you're just going to be going around in circles and circles. You know being distracted by conversations, by, you know, glittery things. I know when I've been like that I've had to make a conscious effort just actually just to shut my computer and not do anything, because if I am going to try and push through doing some work, I'm just not going to have any luck, it's not going to be any good.

Speaker 1:

So that low energy tank and it could, to be honest, change. You might not have the same energy levels. You might say, oh, I'm a morning person so I've always got high energy in the morning, but there will be days that this changes, so you just have to be mindful. So those like low energy days, low energy time zones during the day, um, uh things. You don't want to be wasting time forcing that focus. It's um, I actually notice it really clearly in my day. So if you don't just pay attention to that, do the real easy stuff. So if there's any, I mean I say filing. You shouldn't be doing any filing, to be honest. If you are, let's talk further on that, message me.

Speaker 1:

But you know, going through clearing up your emails, tidying up your emails, scheduling your posts Maybe you're going to go listen to a podcast. Emails scheduling your posts Maybe you're going to go listen to a podcast. Maybe you just watch one of those sort of low energy webinars or things like that. You might be doing your to-do list for the next day. That type of thing is really what you'd be doing with your low energy. So it's just about matching the task to your battery. So you just need to basically learn how to build that ideal day.

Speaker 1:

Start paying attention to when you feel the most switched on. Are you a morning person? If you are fantastic. Get all that high energy work done in the morning. If you only find your groove in the afternoon, then that's totally fine as well. Just make sure that you are structuring maybe your inspections for the afternoon and maybe the mornings always for admin. So the goal is never to push through those tired moments, it's always just to work with them and not against them. So the goal is always it's never to push through those tired moments, it's always just to work with them and not against them. So it's a real small shift where you can just start becoming a little bit more mindful of that natural rhythm during the day and that natural energy rhythm, and that will actually help you build a day that probably flows a lot better and you'll actually get a lot more done and with a lot more stress.

Speaker 1:

So that is your job for the week to pay attention to your energy levels where you are feeling the most high energy, making sure that you even if you write down what are those high energy tasks route, inspections, home opens, all of that. Just make sure that you are doing them where your energy levels do peak during the day, making sure that you know when you are going to have a slump of a day, whether that's the 3 to 5 pm mark. Don't go doing home opens at that time when you need your high energy or your routine inspections. Keep that for that low energy stuff and you will start feeling that your days are going to get more productive and your clients are going to get you in your best energy as well, which is like super important, and you should just find that those days flow a little bit better.

Speaker 1:

So, obviously, something for you to reflect on with yourself If you are managing a team, maybe recognizing where your team sits in terms of where their energy levels are, and have that conversation with them about making sure that they're structuring their day that aligns with that conversation with them about making sure that they're structuring their day that lines with that. So I hope that helps give you a little bit of something to think about this week and in subsequent weeks as well. And, yeah, pay attention to it. I reckon it will make a big difference. So I hope it works for you just as well as it works for me, as always. Thank you for listening.
